EPK and Album Concept

INTRODUCTION – FOR LABELS & MANAGEMENT

We’re Misery Prize, and we reckon we've made something massive.

We've self-produced our second album and it's in the last stages of production before it goes to master.

It's called WAR. DEATH. FAMINE. CONQUEST. and we think it is genuinely brilliant.

The details are below. If it clicks, let’s talk. If not, no harm done. Thanks for your time.

Who We Are

Misery Prize is a three-piece electro-punk band, based out of Yorkshire. Delivering sharp observations bluntly through filthy bass lines and catchy hooks, via aggressive northern spoken word verses and melodic choruses, the band makes far more noise than it has any right to.

Combining elements of punk, electronica, hip-hop, and raw spoken-word poetry, with our second album WAR. DEATH. FAMINE. CONQUEST. we take aim at the social apocalypse unfolding around us.

For fans of: John Cooper Clarke, Sleaford Mods, Benefits, Pulp, and anyone who’s ever objectively observed the state of the world.

The New Album – WAR. DEATH. FAMINE. CONQUEST.

Our second album (but the first we have recorded as a 3-piece, and therefore our second debut album), is WAR. DEATH. FAMINE. CONQUEST. It wasn't intended to be a concept album, but we noticed that the songs we'd written were stories of people and situations.

They were all directly influenced by modern society, whether as cautionary tales or direct satire of real characters. It goes hard, but it comes with nothing but heart.

Front man Ryan was a cult novellist in a past life. During the recording of the album, he's written a series of short stories to connect the songs together and enlisted the help of an artist friend - Jeff Collins. This material will feature on the vinyl/CD booklet and be available to read on the website.

Read Preview Story - The Ballad of Kenneth Underground

We've been experimenting with video content around the apocalyptic vibe to gauge interest; results varied - Tik Tok most receptive so far.

We have a plan for a series of launch events. The album will be performed in full by the band, with live shows tentatively planned in the UK, and hopefully Poland.

The album itself moves between raw electronic aggression, punk energy, and moments of spoken word, all threaded together by themes that touch on disaster capitalism, social media, toxic masculinity, modern dating, influencer culture, self-medication, and the slow death march of a system that has already decided who wins and who loses.

The Single Release Strategy

We plan to release 3 singles from the album, each with a B-Side to take our total number of tunes released in 2025 to 18 once the album is out. Final releases to be decided, but presently we're aiming for:

A Dozen Red Flags / The Snake (Late-Spring 2025)

  • A Dozen Red Flags is the most immediate track on the album, and it lays out the character assassination culture of modern dating.

  • The Snake is an aggressive cover of Al Wilson’s classic tale of ignorance and self-inflicted betrayal.

  • We'll release a Lost Transmission video of the recital of the story of A Dozen Red Flags in the weeks before the song drops, plus release the cover art visuals.

  • We've got big ideas on the video of this. It'll see a couple having an awkward first date, whilst the band take up different roles within the bar.

We expect to release 2 further singles from the album, along with B-sides Just Another Tenner and Cancel Ben, two tracks that look at chasing a cheap win, and the impact of cancel culture. We're a left leaning band, but we're not gonna let anybody get away with anything. The main single releases will depend on how we feel about the final mixed and mastered versions and how A Dozen Red Flags goes down.

The following link is for an early mix of the album version of A Dozen red Flags - please be aware that all mixes are raw and pre-master, and not for public sharing. This track is a great example of what we're doing with this project, it's a banger.
